What do we think of them?

#3 needs an applicable age limit. It can be like 25 or something, I don't think it's fair for those who do not get their license right away at 16.

I believe the new driver laws only apply to those 19 and under.
The only law that I think is ridiculous is the law restricting how many people a young driver can have in the car with them. I think that's an unrealistic request, and there's no need for it. However the others? Fine by me. My biggest concern with young drivers is speeding. Speeding, along with the feeling of immortality that many young kids seem to have is a problem for me. I don't think the laws have to be as strict as they're suggesting though. I agree with a zero-tolerance regime but they should give leeway depending on how much over the limit kids speed. The same can be said for driving under the influence. Instead of making the limit zero they could make it 0.4 or something. |

Boost minimum time to get a licence from 20 months to 30 with driver education, and from 24 to 36 months without such a course.
Allow zero blood alcohol in drivers 21 and younger.
Ban teens with G2 licences from carrying more than one teenaged passenger during the first year.
Thirty-day licence suspension if a young driver ignores restrictions. Second offence: 90 days. Third offence: licence cancellation. Agreed. |

The 20/24 months applies to the process starting with the G1 written test, then the G1 road test, and finally the G2 road test. So the increases to the minimum
times would apply to the same thing.
http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/...v/driver/gradu/index.html I'm worried about the designated driver problems if a 19yo (or younger teen) can only have one other 19yo (or younger teen) passenger, especially since people are going to university as young as 17yo these days (keeping underage drinking as a separate issue in this case).

I thought the new laws were applicable to everyone under 21????
Agreed. It doesn't exactly promote carpooling. Or
having a DD for those going out to bars. If only two people can ride, than only one can drink. That's not efficient. Everyone will have to have their own
car practically.

My thoughts exactly. |

It's all bullshit. The laws we have are just fine, our problem is that we aren't enforcing them to their potential. If anything make something like
Young Drivers mandatory so that every teenage gets proper, thorough training, rather than imposing all of these laws, and in turn giving young people even more
to rebel against.

All of the laws except the whole one passenger thing sound reasonable. I really have a problem with restricting the amount of passengers in a car because
essentially, three 19-yr-olds can't go see a movie together in one car. That's just fucking crazy.
I kind of get the reasoning behind it, but it's too extreme. |
