Will I see a difference with this amount of exercise?? |

I go to the gym, 4 times a week. (some lazy weeks only 3 times) I start out with 15 min of cardio. I walk for 2 min, then run for 1 min, then walk 2 min..etc.
Then ill do my weight lifting, I switch off every other day doing arms/abs and legs/abs. That lasts about 15 minutes. Then I get back on the tredmil and do the
same cardio. Do you think thats enough? Or just barely enough?

The only suggestion i have is that maybe you should do your cardio all together instead of breaking it up. I have heard that it usually takes about 10 minutes
for your body to warm up and really begin burning the fat and warm the muscles so ... you may be cutting yourself short by only getting 5 minutes of good fat
burning in by doing 15 minutes at a time. You may be able to burn fat faster if you just do the cardio all at once.

That routine is way off. First off, you need to stretch then warm up for about 5-10 min. Cardio should be AT LEAST 20 minutes at a maximum heart rate at about
40% if you're a beginner. Cool down is same as warm up.

Actually you want to warm up and than stretch. Stretching before can cause you to get injured. Also, I have heard/read that it better to do cardio after
strength workout, since strength tend to put pressure on your blood vessels/raise your blood pressure and cardio does the opposite.
You might want to add in a little more strength workout too. |

honestly 30 mins a day, is not enough. Its only enough when you go everyday. 1 1/2 hours is more realistic if your going to go every other day. |

I heard that people trying to lose weight have to excercise about an hour and a half a day at least to lose any weight.

I heard that people trying to lose weight have to excercise about an hour and a half a day at least to lose any weight. This sounds fishy to me. I don't know anyone who exercises for a full hour and a half every day. That is A LOT of exercise. Sticking with just the 30 minutes minimum a few times a week should make a difference, albeit slowly. |

I exercise twice a week for an hour to an hour and a half each time doing cardio and weights and it's helped for me. Try sticking with something that
really gets you working up a sweat. The going back and forth seems odd to me. And whoever said you have to exercise every day for that long, cannot be true. My
doctor told me it's best to spread workouts out to every other day to let the muscles rest.

If your exercise-time is less the 45 minutes, probably nothing will happen.
After 45 minutes, your body starts working on the fat-cells. That's what I would recommend: start with 10 minutes on the tredmil, then do your weight lifting. After that go on the tredmill (makes really nice legs ) for at least 45 minutes...

:
1. Never, ever stretch before warming up! 2. Warm up for 10 min, do resistance training for 30 min, then do high intensity cardio for 20-30 min after (for a full workout) 3. Stretch after 4. No matter how much time you've spent at the gym, you aren't going to see decent results unless you change your diet, sorry. |

oh and to add after actually reading the rest of the thread...
there is such a thing as over-exercising (ie 1 1/2 hours!). over-exercising can have the opposite effect (weakness, lack of results, etc.). Your workouts should never last more than 90 minutes, unless you're a highly trained athlete. people trying to lose weight need to eat well, not kill themselves exercising lol. It doesn't matter if you break up your cardio or do it all at once...it will have the same result. Also, cardio isn't the only way you can raise your heart rate...weight and resistance training should have the same effect. |

xBlueOceanx wrote:Not true you can excise for more then 1/2 hours. Just as long as you eat before, have carbs, and eat right afterwards a protein shake. 1/2 hours is standard specially when you have weight training and cardio together. By the way doing all cardio does not necessary mean you will lose weight. Tons of women make that misake but they don't realize that weight training, specially in the legs actually burns off fat long term effect. |

I have read that people who do more than an hour workout (they were probably talking about strength workout and not strength and cardio) tend to have a high
dropout rates. Probably because a lot of people tend to have a busy schedule and cannot find the time to do that long of a workout and possible also not seeing
the results they want to see.
I have heard doing more than 2 hours a day most days a week (if not every day) your body will start "fighting back" and gain weight. Other words goes into starvation mode. Of course this probably would be different story if you are a high-training athlete. xxbabigurixx, do not think anyone said you cannot do more than 30 minutes of exercise. Everyone so far as said (or heard) they do more than 30 minutes.

It depends on what type of cardio you're doing. If you're doing the elliptical or treadmill at the lowest resistance and all of that, then it's
going to be a while before you see results. I just started going back to the gym, but what I did before I had to stop and what I do now is pretty much as
follows:
I stretch and all of that at home 10-15 minutes on the stair stepper at levels 4-6 Weights are broken up. One day I do back/abs. Next day I do arms/chest. Next day I do legs/abs At the end of that, I either do 30 minutes on the Elliptical or if I'm with my husband we'll play about an hour or so of racquetball. On days I don't go to the gym I do pilates and stuff at the house. |

I usually jog on the tredmill for a half hour, then go and do weights. And also trade off days with legs/abs, arms/abs.
