and I refuse to pay. ![]()
Is there anything I can do for a temporary solution? I know the card is in my house somewhere so I don't want to get another one. Plus, I have a red and
white card and I'm not giving that up without a fight. ![]()

I think you can get a temporary card from the Ministry, but that means your old one will become invalid and they'll be processing a new card for you.

But they'll issue her the new photo card which she doesn't want. I'm not giving up my red and white one either.
I think the fee is $40 without the card to see the doctor. Turn the house upside down and look for the card. |

Does your doctor know you well? Maybe he'll just let it go.

Yep, that's what I meant by "they'll be processing a new card for you."

I finally waved the white flag after being told for years by the nurse at my doctor's office and whenever I was in the hospital, that I had to change my
card and that there was an alert on my card. I finally went to the MOH and filled in the application for the new photo card. I should be getting it soon. The
annoying part is that after having my card for over 40 years, I'll now have to get the photo one updated every 4 years!

My university's health services always tried to tell me I had to switch, but I held my ground since no other place gave me trouble!
And apparantly the government is getting everyone to switch over at some point, I'm just crossing my fingers that it isn't soon!! |

Where in the world do you guys live?
I have a cheap ass plastic card that doesn't even have the actual day of my birth on it, never mind my picture. Gotta love Saskatchewan. |

I still have my old one too! The laminate is completely gone and it's faded considerably, but it still works.

My old one was from Ontario and was like a plastic credit card so it was still in fantastic shape since the day I got it many many years ago

I think that's what you're talking about, right? That's what I have, too, but the thing that makes the front of it smooth is some kind of thin clear covering. Anyways, that cover is now fully gone on mine and so is the black on the numbers/letters (so basically it's just white ridges indicating the name and what numbers they are |

yes mine looked like that but it was still in perfect condition although a bit of the coloring off the numbers was gone also.

I still have the red and white one and have never once been told to get the new ones. They can kiss my ass. The plastic is ripped off mine and everything, it
looks like bail now.

I would still have my red and white one but I lost my wallet and I had to get a new one.
I still haven't renewed mine and my birthday was in June. I just hate having to go and stand in line and wait to get something that I don't even want to get anyway. I hate the new cards. |

When I finally caved and went to go my new card the wait wasn't bad at all. I arrived a few minutes before it opened and there were about 20 people ahead
of me waiting outside and I thought I would be there forever. But once we got in, we all lined up at the first window and we were quickly dispatched to the
sitting area with a number specific to what we were there for. I think I was in and out in 15 minutes!

Just so you know folks, they haven't given out those cards in 14 yrs. They have been calling them back bit by bit because well a couple million folks
showing up all at once would be pandemonium. They are on the second series of photo cards. All of those old red / white cards will be voided out probably by
the end of 2008.
Why you ask ? Well they gave out those old cards practically to anyone who asked for them. No identifying marks etc. The fraud was unimaginable and we were paying for it. Aunt Suzie in Tennessee with no health insurance have a heart problem ? Just give her your card and get treatment. Born in Canada , but no longer liver here , no problem, just stop by and get a card. To get the new card you just have to prove your citizenship or immigration status , address and who you are. Not a problem if you are supposed to be here, and actually live here. BIG problem if you were frauding the system and try to get the new cards. Also if aunt Susan doesn't look like your twin she can't use your card. For those not wanting to wait - any location you can also call ahead for an appointment and never have to wait. BTW if you show up with an expired card at the doctors they may not get paid if they take it, so you will have to pay upfront. If you think it's an inconvenience ask others what they go through. 400- 600 $ per month for health care PLUS a mandated yearly physical which YOU pay for . If there is something wrong at the physical then they probably will no longer cover you. Compare that to 15 minutes or so every five years for free care. Plus if you lose the new cards you just phone up have them send you new one. Sorry for the rant but I work in one of the offices and wow I've heard it all . |

you dont need your card, they just type in your last name and have you on record. Bring some other ID though.
