I tried Zoloft once a long time ago, for like a month or two. It didn't do anything for me.

No, don't! Seriously, antidepressants are evil, all of them.
No, I'm not a scientologist. |

It helped me, but I gained a ton of weight (which came off right away when I got off it) and the withdrawls were terrible. I'm glad to be off it now, but it was worth it at the time. |

Oh, I know it takes a few days to kick in. I have been on a million different things for half my life.

Um, yes. I know you think they are helping you now, but they are dangerous.

I was on it 2 years ago for about 6 months. It helped me quite a bit.

They help more people than they hurt. You don't know what you're talking about.

Anti-depressants scare me. Way too many reports of young lives being lost due to these things. I say that, because within the last year 2 kids from my city
killed themselves while on anti-depressants.

I've had horrible experiences with antidepressants after the initial placebo effect of "Okay, I'm getting better, this is good," wore off. I
try now to deal with the issues causing my depression rather than try to medicate it away.
People have different experiences though. For some it may really work for them, as long as they don't ignore their problems as well. |

My doctor told me once the medicine starts working, it makes people feel strange/possibly more depressed but it would go away soon. And he was right. I'm not saying they help everyone, but they aren't bad if you're educated about the effects and don't mix it with alcohol and/or other medications. And it takes at least 2 weeks for the meds to start affecting your brain. |

I took it when I was 17-18. It worked wonders for me at the time and I don't think I had any side effects from it.

RollerGirl19 wrote: They just wanted their children to be better and I'm sure they just wanted to feel better and more normal. Unfortunately these parents didn't get any of the Health Canada reports until after their children's deaths and by then it was obviously too late. I worry because if in these 2 cases, people weren't properly informed prior to them taking the drug and not being monitored throughout their use of the anti-depressant, then how many more young adults are being put on these drugs without proper care? Clearly there are doctor's out there who don't feel that these sorts of drugs require serious attention, proper warning and education. I have, for the most part, always been under the impression that the negative side effects and lack of care come out after the the person's death, and in most cases neither the doctor or the drug company can be held responsible, and that is hard to take and in the end it ends up looking like those who died are at fault. ETA: Neither were taking drugs or alcohol at or leading up to their deaths. Both lead what appeared to be normal lives. Obviously things weren't okay, and the drug wasn't helping them, if they felt the need to hang themselves in their parents home.
