I am not for/against any particular one, except Depo and Ortho. Depo because instead of no period, I bled every FUCKING day for 3 months straight, and Ortho because uh, I got pregnant while on it, so it obviously don't work for me. I know ZazzyJenna and gapprincess both rave about the Nuvaring, but I've never paid much attention to the common side effects or complaints about it. I don't have acne so I don't need anything that will help that, but I do have really really bad periods (flu like symptoms and crap) so it would be awesome if I could find a BC that would also help with that. Also, minimal weight gain! Effectiveness and little to no weight gain are ideal. Lastly, of course I'm going to discuss it with my doctor, but my past experiences with getting BC from her usually involves her giving me whatever shit the pharmacy reps gave her a lot of samples of. It seems to be more about getting people to prescribe to what the reps are giving her and less about what would actually work better for ME. She isn't the only doctor I've had this problem with.

I've like getting worried about getting pregnant on OTC Lo and supposedly a lot of people do. Did you take it like on time perfectly and then got pregnant? So far, I haven't had a problem with OTC Lo.

But after I got pregnant, I did research and it basically is more for people who have bad side effects from too much estrogen. So if you don't have a problem with that, there's really no way to be on it. Did your doctor suggest it to you? If so, did he/she say why?

So the lo dose is supposedly better for that. But I really don't want to get pregnant. I'm going to see what's up.

It really regulated my period, the periods were shorter, no weight gain or loss, my skin was decent. But I'm not too fond of the patch itself. I'm going to start Desogen in a couple weeks when I get my period. ZazzyJenna said it made her homicidal so we'll see how it goes for me.

Like I said, unless you've taken other BC and had bad side effects from the estrogen levels, there's really no reason to be on Ortho Lo. I think doctors are prescribing it SO much because of the pharmaceutical company reps and that's really unethical. And I just realized I didn't answer the other question you asked, IHeartDorian. I think I've seen a commercial for one that you don't even have to wear 24/7, but I can't think of the name. That actually sounds like a good idea. I sometimes forget other things exist besides the pill, Depo and Nuva. What is Desogen?

I've been on it for like two years now with no problems so far, but my doc kind of just prescribed it to me by default (I'm pretty sure it's cuz of the whole, she had a lot of samples thing) and never really explained why. Every time I ask her if I need something stronger she's like "Ehh, don't worry about it."

So you completely missed your period? I had a really light period recently. Like my period is usually light, but it was lighter than normal. So it kind of freaked me out. Especially since my mom just told me a story about her friend from work who got pregnant on BC and was still getting her period. I think that I'm just going to see how my next period comes along and if it's all off again, or if I completely miss it - I'm going to have to take a pregnancy test. So you just went to the Drs to get a blood test? Not even the over the counter variety?

And it happened with two of my cousins' friends - exactly a year after they started taking it. I'm switching to Loestrin 24 for my next pack to see if it'll stop.

Let me see if Yaz is known to gain weight. I hate that one commercial they have with the women at a party and the bitch keeps going on and on about how it works. Who talks like that at a party?! Only cons so far are breast tenderness (they've hurt like a bitch the entire time, still do) and spotting. It's weird, though -- I'm expecting my period this weekend, and only a day or so ago did the spotting finally stop. Just in time for the real party. Oh, and I haven't gained any weight on it. It seems to have suppressed my appetite, and I'm actually losing weight.

It's only been recently that I've been having a lot of sex without a condom. Oh this is very bad. I feel like this is a bad omen and I'm going to somehow end up pregnant.

I would never ever recommend it to anyone. And I got pregnant on Ortho Evra, so I'm definitely not going back to that. Depo was the only thing that worked in regulating my period, but I don't like getting shots, so I'm glad this thread has been made!

Birth control works differently for everyone. It may have not been the right level of hormones for her while it might be for you. It's like side effects. Some people have them while on something, others don't. I'm on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and have no side effects and it's working great for me. It's not designed to help with my acne problem but it does help some. My doctor gave me samples of 2 kinds to try, the Ortho or another kind. I forget what it was called but it's the chewable BC pill. I knew no one on that one nor could I really find anyone online that was on it so I went with the Ortho because well, my mom had a good history with it and when it comes to female problems and periods, we're on the same level. But at the same time I know people who had horrible side effects with it so they switched to something else. But anyways, if it matters any, I have a friend on Yaz. She says it's the best one she's ever been on. It controls her periods better, they're not really random, and they're really light.

If so, then yeah Lo would be best for you. I guess just use condoms or something if you stay on it, at least during the fertile window. Yes, completely missed my period but cramps and had all the other period effects when it should have come in December. And yeah I wanted to know for sure so I got the blood test done. LOL. I figured that since it was SO soon after my missed period, it might not show up on a pee test.

Side effects for me: spotting during first few months, boobs grew, kept acne away. When I tried to skip my period, I got my period for 5 weeks instead...but I have an extremely stubborn period. But no weight gain? And did you have cramps or extreme bloating before you started taking it?
