yeah, these people have long-term scams going with specific targets, it's horrible. I read in the newspaper about a woman who killed herself because she
was stuck in one of these scams and felt like she couldn't get out.

It's not legal for me to refuse to do a Western Union for someone. I could get sued for that.

This is the one I read about:
A Jamaica-based lottery scam promising a $2.5 million windfall cost Ann Mowle her entire life savings of $248,000 before the 72-year-old grandmother from Monroe decided she had enough. |

In my grandmom's case, they're calling her from Jamaica. It's out of US jurisdiction and the police can't stop international calls. And even if
they had a way to extradite and persecute the people taking advantage of her, she'll never see her money again. There's no way to reclaim it, and
we're talking almost $100,000. It's a shitty ass situation, and I hope no one else's family members succomb to the trickery that these assholes
pull.

after the first time you sent $100 and didn't see a return, wouldn't you stop?

Despite the paper trail including names and phone numbers, investigators have had little luck in tracking down the scam-artists behind the ploy. That's exactly what they said about the douchebags preying on my grandmom. Her banks have been authorized to freeze her accounts and not let her withdraw more than a few hundred dollars in a given time span, which was kind of helping, but overall I just wish she'd get smart and tell them to shove it. But I also get the feeling she feels for her safety and ours if she stops Sucky sucky sucky Jamaicans.

^Yeah, it's my understanding that it's part intimidation, part hope that they'll get some of their money back. It's horrible, and I'm so
sorry your grandmom is a victim.
