But I feel so freaking jealous now! My younger sister decided that she wanted a car. So, she started looking at like 20 year old cars. My parents decided
that htey didn't feel safe with her having such an old car (and were worried up future repair costs etc). So, They convinced her to buy a 2 year old car,
and said they would pay the difference.
So, now they just put out 11K for a car. 3K for insurance/transfer papers/etc. My sister is contributing like 5K to this. Oh, and they think they should
chip in on her gas, because they let me use their vehicle 1x per week without charging me gas money.
Now everyone is outside fawning over it, and I just feel so jealous that they are giving her all of this, while I'll be fighting to borrow their car 1x per
week, and commuting with transit every other day
OK, I know this makes me a jealous bitch....

23 and 20.
(And yes, I could buy my own car, so that isn't an issue at all. I've just decided to save my money so I can buy a condo once I'm done school. SO yes, I know that makes my jealousy even worse |

Why don't you decide that you want a new car and offer to put up $5K for it?

Because I don't want to spend 5K on a car just for the sake of having a car. Plus, I would feel guilty with my parents spending so much money!

Like I know this is partly my decision. Its not so much that I want them to buy me a car also (I would have never asked for it) - I am more jealous that they
are doing it for her

I think it is selfish that you are still living off your parents so you can have the money to buy a condo.

I agree with you to some extent fuYuku DIAF. I was very close to moving out this September (I am just starting Law School). But my parents were EXTREMELY
insistent I stay at home and save my money, versus blowing all my savings on rent/living expenses for the next 3 years. Obviously, I am extremely appreciative
of that fact, and I plan to find a way to pay them back (not necessarily just with cash!) once I graduate and have a job.

I get your point. You can't argue with the parentals. But if they are paying for law school, you can't fault them buying your sister a car.

I think me living at home also contributes to me wanting to save everywhere possible (hense, taking transit instead of buying a car). My parents have given me
the opportunity to not have a lot of expenses, and I know they appreciate me saving my money in every way possible while I"m at home. Its not like I'm
off blowing my money on stupid things everyday, while having them pay my expenses.

I didn't say they were paying for law school
I said they were letting me live at home while I go to school. They are paying for my sisters education.
Plus, I'm DEFINITELY not trying to fault my parents! Just pointing out that I was jealous |
