Farmers have 30 days from the day an egg is laid to get it to stores. Then, the stores have another 30 days to sell the eggs. The FDA recomends a maximum of 5 weeks in your refrigerator before you discard your eggs. I just need one egg for my brownies! The date on the carton is August 25.

I'd eat 'em. Ditto. I've always heard that they're safe for a month after the sell-by. But just to be on the safe side, I'd break it into a separate cup or bowl to check for funky smells or discoloration before you add it to the batter.
