That's why doctors need to educate people about this. My doctor told me once the medicine starts working, it makes people feel strange/possibly more depressed but it would go away soon. And he was right. I'm not saying they help everyone, but they aren't bad if you're educated about the effects and don't mix it with alcohol and/or other medications.

And it takes at least 2 weeks for the meds to start affecting your brain.

They just wanted their children to be better and I'm sure they just wanted to feel better and more normal. Unfortunately these parents didn't get any of the Health Canada reports until after their children's deaths and by then it was obviously too late.

I worry because if in these 2 cases, people weren't properly informed prior to them taking the drug and not being monitored throughout their use of the anti-depressant, then how many more young adults are being put on these drugs without proper care?

Clearly there are doctor's out there who don't feel that these sorts of drugs require serious attention, proper warning and education.

I have, for the most part, always been under the impression that the negative side effects and lack of care come out after the the person's death, and in most cases neither the doctor or the drug company can be held responsible, and that is hard to take and in the end it ends up looking like those who died are at fault.

ETA: Neither were taking drugs or alcohol at or leading up to their deaths. Both lead what appeared to be normal lives. Obviously things weren't okay, and the drug wasn't helping them, if they felt the need to hang themselves in their parents home.
