Why is it some people think that being liberal/Democratic means you want babies to die? Just because I'm pro-choice, it doesn't mean I want people having abortions all the time. I'd rather have people be smart about sex and not get to the point where they have to abort, it is kind of sad when that happens. But I say I'm pro-choice because I really don't like the government saying what I can and cannot do with my body. Once you give them the permission to govern over every woman's uterus, they then know they have got more power and they won't stop with that.

I'm pro-life and I've been a Dem my entire life. There are Dem pro-lifers (democratsforlife.org) and there are Repub pro-choicers. Abortion and "life" issues are not really exclusive one way or the other to one party or the other. There are pro-choice Repub electeds and there are pro-life Dem electeds. I've decided that I'm not going to be a single issue voter, and that there are other issues out there that are just as important and are more likely to be something the President and Congress can address, such as health care. So again, it is about choosing which candidate most agrees with you on all the issues. And don't assume because a candidate is Repub that they are pro-life.

I got Brian Moore and Gloria La Riva, who I guess are socialists. Out of the two parties, I got Hillary, which is funny because I really didn't like her when she was in the running. But the next person I got was Obama with 53%, then McCain with 30%.

that's how i've always felt about the situation. once you've gained control over someone else's body and you've gotten to the point where the gov't can take away something so simple from the individual. where does it go from there? what do you have to control next?

but i've also felt that along with abortion being a woman's choice. we should also be reenforcing the value of KNOWING how to protect yourself to kids at a young age. we can't stop them by saying "just dont' have sex. its the only way..." and sit there and HOPE that we got through to them. to be fair, you have to educate those who are at the most risk for making the decision to have sex without knowing all the facts. and that i think, is more of a liberal idea.

i personally, could NEVER be a conservative. and it just baffles my mind when people are! only because i believe so deeply in the things that make me liberal...

To be fair bek, McCain really isn't the "opposite" of either - of course that depends on what is important to you. I think BOTH of them are concerned about the SAME issues, but have a different way of approaching them. McCain is no Bush, and people need to start seeing that.

I'm not a republican by any means, but I completely agree with this. While I probably will not vote for him, he really is getting a bum wrap by a lot of people who are grossly uninformed.

Haha well the first person I got was Bob Barr but out of the major candidates McCain got 43% and Obama got 18%

I got Bob too, and after a lot of research, he is the candidate I decided to support.

I feel this way too. I read others' posts about how Democrats aren't "pro-abortion" which I understand, but my personal beliefs that I've had for pretty much my entire life aren't very Democratic at all when it comes to this issue. It's just the way I've always felt and I don't think anybody or anything could ever change my mind about it. I agree about McCain too. All I keep hearing is that if Obama is elected he'll be assassinated and if McCain is elected he'll die of natural causes

But again, all Democrats are NOT pro-choice and all Republicans are NOT pro-life. There are numerous elected Democrats out there that are openly pro-life (and same goes for pro-choice Repubs). Abortion is not a Dems are for it and Repubs are against it thing. With the abortion issue, you have to look at each individual candidate, not their party. And there are millions of pro-life Democrat voters out there.

I don't consider it a protest vote, but then my husband has a Ron Paul bumper sticker on our car. I think everyone would be better off if we all voted using our conscience. If that's what you did, more power to you. That's why I don't have a problem w/ folks not voting. If their *conscience* tells them not to then they should follow that.

It isn't a protest vote. Thank goodness there are still some intelligent people that don't settle on the lesser of the two evils. The two party system is a failure, this is not new information. We're heading towards WWIII and another Depression and people still are asking for the same things?!? So one is against abortion and another is for it, big fucking deal. Our fiscal and foreign policy is what will bring an end to this Republic if we don't change directions dramatically.

I agree with the Rebublicans on one issue: Immigration. But women's rights and gay rights and the future of this country are more important to me. So I'm voting for Obama.

I totally agree with this. I used to get annoyed when people said that young Democrats grow older and become Republicans, but I can see how that happens.

Right now, I'm concerned about the environment, programs for the less fortunate and protecting women's rights. I'll still want those things to get better when I'm old, but I'll totally be more interested in WTF the government is trying to do with my money than I am right now.

I am worried about what my government is doing with my money...another reason I'm voting for Obama. McCain will keep giving tax cuts to the top 5% and taking money from people who can't afford it, and giving it to a war that most of the country doesn't believe in.

But similar to abortion, though, immigration is not a one way or the other with the two parties. You really have to go by what each individual candidate is saying. There are some Dems with some very strong anti-immigration policies. And there are some Repubs with some rather pro-immigration policies. There's no true clear divide on the immigration issue between the two parties (unlike with gay rights, health care, etc. - which do absolutely have some on each side that go against the norm in their parties, but overall, there is a fairly clear divide between the parties on those issues).

Of course there are. I know not all Republicans are tough on illegal immigration and not all Democrats are easy on illegal immigrants. Obama is actually not that bad, so it's not like I'm giving anything up by voting for him.
