OTH FTW!
I don't understand how "The OC" was so popular but nobody

Well to be fair, I've never watched either of them.
OTH FTW! |

It's probably the lack of Seth or Seth-like character. He was the only reason I could stand the first season. I stopped watching after that, and even when
I look back, I don't even know why I ever watched the OC in the first place. Completely horrible. The GG is lacking in any star male that will have girls
squealing. (look at OTH and Chad Michael Murray). The male lead is a complete dud.
Plus, now more than ever, most teenagers (the demographic for this show) watch things online. Or, it's because the show just isn't any good (although I love Leighton Meissner(sp?)...she needs to show off her acting skills on a better show). |

actually the appealing part of the show, none of the leading men are completely superficial. They're beautiful and girl-crazy, but they also have deep shit
going on in their lives.
The show is really great and Leighton acts circles around all those people, she's perfect as Blair. She honestly makes the show.

I like GG a lot better than the OC. Maybe its because I find NYC more interesting than just another California beach show, or maybe its because they go to all
girls/boys private schools, which I did. It reminds me a lot of my high school.

I'd say Chace Crawford is the male breakout star of GG, hands down. He's the one that's reached tween and teen hearthrob status, while the other
two are not really mentioned all that much in the media.

Dan is Seth-like? Are you on crack?!
The Chace thing is interesting because I believe it was actually Penn who was supposed to become the breakout star. |

I've never watched either show because I don't like the way the people look.

Okay, I'm an idiot. I thought you meant Dan from OTH. It's late.

The Oc died when Marissa died.
I love GG but OTH owns all for me. |

I agree that the OC sucked after season 2. Adam and Benjamin couldn't even keep me interested. I like GG and I think all three main male characters are
cute..but that's just me. They make me feel pervy b/c they're all so young! If only they'd let the actor who plays Chuck use his real Brit
accent!! But then I don't think I could handle it!

they both are overhyped & undeserving.
I watched The OC the first 2 seasons, I liked it, was really into it at first, mainly because of Seth gah it's so annoying when shows are constantly compared to one another by the
media but the comparisons aren't even very accurate. anyway even in its prime The OC wasn't anything amazing. i liked it and it was good for what it
was and that's about it. the ratings SUCKED HARDCORE in the beginning. i remember how it was all over the media before the pilot aired but when it finally
aired and for quite a few eps after that, the ratings were only 7 million or so, which is awful, even for Fox. it wasn't until later, like after S1, or
towards the end of S1 (wasn't S1 really short?) that the ratings started to get much better & became the big popular show it's known as today.
Gossip Girl? annoys me. I don't care for it at all and can't get into it. all the chars seem ridiculously superficial & dramaaaaa. and i hate the idea of this mysterious gossip girl voiced by Kristen Bell I prefer much better written shows, witty shows that have a lot of intelligence & creativity put into them, such as LOST, The X-Files, Six Feet Under, Heroes. and there are better shows that are more on-par with The OC/GG but just are BETTER, such as DirtySexyMoney and Brothers & Sisters

It's that they lack the "it" factor that can attract a bunch of girls to watch it just for him (I referenced Chad Michael Murray on OTH because I remember when it started, allll the girls that I knew loved him - not saying I like OTH because I do not at all). On Gossip Girl, Chuck may be an intriguing character and probably has a lot of depth, but he's not originally promoted as a lead (he's more like supporting) and no one really knows him (that don't watch GG a lot). The two male leads are really Dan and Chase, who Iack any star quality. Really, I only decided to watch a few episodes of GG because it had Blair from Veronica Mars. Seth on the OC was what made the show tolerable, but I can't say what he was like in the later seasons because I stopped watching after Season 1. The guy Dan on GG seems like a wannabe Seth, but failing miserably. He's just completely awkward (in the not-so-cute way) and not funny at all. |
