The only time I hate it is when my husband calls me that. His parents and grandparents call each other mom and dad so I guess its second nature to him but I
hate it! I have to remind him all the time not to do that.

LOL, I don't think people do that. I've heard adults say something like, "Go to your mommy." when talking to a child, but I've never seen
an adult call another adult mommy who wasn't their mother. That's weird. :ol

I see it on TV all the time. Like just now, the photographer was with the family and she was like Mommy, sit on your side like this.

So if another adult asks you "are you mollyfart's mom?" you are going to say "No! I am her parent!"
Your kids will grow with an identity crisis. |

lol this made me think of the Friends episode when Ross and Rachel were calling each other Mommy and Daddy in front of Emma and then Phoebe started calling
Ross "daddy."

I would think part of being a parent is being a mommy or a daddy. Nothing to be ashamed of.
Especially after some of those horrible names that couples attach to each other. |

The Mommy group my sister in law belongs to does that, like they all say "Mommy, can Colin have apple juice?" or whatever. It's annoying.
Although my boyfriend and I are guilty of calling each other Mommy and Daddy now, and we only have cats |

The whole doctor thing is kinda silly though, cause the doctor probably isn't going to ask the parent his or her first name, so it's just easiest to
address the parent as mom/dad (not mommy though).
I guess I don't really mind it if it's a stranger, but it gets a little weirder when it's someone who is close to you (and obviously knows your name). I find parents do it most when they are trying to get their kids to say 'mommy' or 'daddy'. Then I guess it becomes a habit after that. Though I've never personally seen it continue for long after.... |
