A co worker told me that his good friend is getting married to this very bitchy, slightly skanky girl. The girl is in her mid-20's and has two elementary school aged children from a previous (out of wedlock) relationship. After the second child was born, she decided to have her tubes tied. Well since then she's met, dated, and become engaged to this guy (my co worker's friend). Now she wants to have more (legitimate? ) children, so she wants her tubes untied. Which is fine, whatever. But get this. The couple sends out the wedding invitations with this message in them: "instead of gifts, we'd like money to have (insert girl's name)'s tubes untied." Uhhh. LMAO. WTF? First of all, you're not even supposed to mention anything about gifts in a wedding invitation, so that's tacky to begin with. But seriously? You're telling everyone to donate to your tube reversal (or whatever it's called) surgery that you shouldn't have had done to begin with?! I think I've offiicially heard it all when it comes to weddings now.

I've come across a few tacky wedding-related issues regarding some of my friends lately. 1. A friend of mine who was married last September told me that she and her husband returned a bunch of stuff they registered for at Dillards. They got store credit, and then she used it on new clothes! I'm sure her wedding guests will be pleased to find out their hard-earned money went to a new wardrobe. 2. Another friend of mine (who isn't even engaged, but has her whole wedding planned out already) told me that she's trying to find a way to tell people to give her and her boyfriend/fiancee-to-be cash instead of gifts. I told her flat out that there is not a "classy" way to ask for money. You get what you get and you be grateful for it. What is with people these days?

I think most people would prefer money instead of gifts, but...it seems to be a cultural thing to give money. So if you're not like, Italian or Indian or another ethnicity where that's the norm, then yeah it's SO tacky to ask/expect for money instead of presents.

Seriously. When did walking down an aisle make people feel so entitled? I did not EXPECT anything when I got married (except from my husband of course) and was thrilled for every present that someone gave me.

Well actually I been to few weddings and some of the invitations stated: MONETARY GIFTS ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED--and there was no gift registry info. I've also been to about 3 Korean weddings and it is customary to give a cash gift. When me and my husband were married all of my Korean co-workers gave us about a 1,000 cash in an envelope.

She wants to include it in her invitation, and I told her that is a huge no-no. You should not put any type of gift registry/preference in an invitation. You're inviting a person to your wedding so they can be there to share your special moment with you, not bring you gifts!

A friend of mine very nicely said on her invitations that she and her fiance already had all the stuff that they would typically ask for on a gift list but that if anybody wanted to contribute to their... I can't remember how she put it, but it was very much a "if you'd like to give us cash or vouchers, thanks, if not then we'd just be happy to see you." I didn't think it was tacky at all.
