It's much sweeter than sugar and it takes much less Splenda than sugar to get a particular level of sweetness. (I know that sounds awkward but I
couldn't think of a better way to phrase it)

Not really. Splenda is sucralose and Equal is aspartame. They are both artificial sweeteners but the similarity ends there.
