My friend and I are moving in together in August. We have a lot to buy, and although we do plan to live together indefinitely, I don't know if we should
split costs on everything evenly in the case that we don't - so we don't have to decide who gets to take what, etc. Any suggestions?
What's the best way to split costs for furnishing apartment?

I would suggest each buying furnature for your own rooms, and then splitting the cost of shared items. If you keep a list of the value of the shared items,
maybe you could attempt to divide it up evenly when moving out?
Or maybe you could each pay for certain shared items (i.e. Roommate 1 buys table and chairs, Roommate 2 buys couch) and then you each take what you purchased on leaving? (trying to keep values relatively even) |

I wouldn't split the cost of shared items. Like, I'd maybe buy a couch and have her buy the tables. Because when it cimes time to move out, you have to
figure out who gets what.

One of my roommates and I shared the cost of some things. We split the cost of an entertainment center and a bookcase, and a VCR (this was a few years ago).
Then, after that year, we both moved out and we just divided things up. I got the entertainment center, she got the bookcase, and I gave her $8 for "her
share" of the VCR.
