Like I said, it's a 2 day thing. Driving there and doing beaches and that whole thing on the first day, Knotts the second day and then driving back.
Thanks much!

My boyfriend and a couple of our friends want to do a two-day trip to California. Anyways, initially I was planning on Six Flags but everyone on here was
saying it's practically in the middle of nowhere. And although we do want to do an amusement park, we also want to soak up some beach time. I just need
some help! What are the best beaches to go to that are close to Buena Park? Would it be better for us to stay near Knotts Berry or the beach? Annnnd any
restaurant/activity ideas would be greatly appreciated

Eh, I'm not a Disney person. Never even watched those movies growing up. Plus, we're looking for a cheaper trip. The guys get tickets for Knotts for
$25 and with the 4 of us all together with hotel and gas should only be like $70. On a budget!

You could try Huntington or Newport Beach, they're both about 30 mins from Knott's or Disney. If you go to Knott's go to the chicken dinner
restaurant in front of the park. They have the best fried chicken.

I would say not to stay in Buena Park because it sucks here.

Knott's has SOME thrill rides though, yes?
I know that Six Flags would be better for that reason. I love rollercoasters but I want a beach day also. And I heard about that Chicken place! I read a couple things online where ppl said that's their favorite when they go there! |

Go about 10 miles more south, and go to Disneyland

Knotts is fine. Don't let these people sway you. Buena Park isn't the nicest place, it used to be pretty bad, but it's whatever now.
And yes, Knotts DOES have thrill rides. I would say probably about 5 REALLY thrilling (6 flag style ones) and the rest are thrilling, but not 6 flags level. Beaches - The best ones in the area are Laguna, Newport, Huntington, or Seal. If you guys plan on surfing at all, Seal is the best for that. Laguna/Newport are more "lounge" beaches, pretty chill.....especially Laguna which is really pretty with all the cliffs and stuff. If you want beach action, go to Huntington. It has the most stuff going on. There's Main street which has tons of shops and restaurants (Freds is good for a margarita/beach/chill type of lunch. It's upstairs and if you sit outside you overlook the water and stuff). As far as restaurants - like someone else said, definitely eat at The Chicken Restaurant (I think that's actually what it's called) which is right outside of Knotts. It's really home made style food - chicken, mashed potatoes, pie, etc. REALLY good! Another good place to eat is Ruby's, which is on the end of the pier in Huntington. I don't know if they have those in Vegas, but it's a 50's diner type of place. I know a REALLY good Italian restaurant in Newport which overlooks the harbor, but it's expensive and since you mentioned being on a budget..... But anyway, I can recommened 100000 places since I live here. If you give me more specifics on what type of food and stuff you're looking for I can suggest more places if you want. And oh yeah - don't stay in Buena Park. Like I said, it's not HORRIBLE, but yuck. Stay closer to the beach. |

KellyDoll.... THANK YOU!!! That was so helpful. I might definitely be hitting you up with some more questions. We're going on the 22nd so I'm trying to
get it all together right now.

^ Well I guess Buena Park as a whole can be considered trashy, but the area right around Knotts is just whatever. Not good/not bad. I would say more good than
bad, though. But I am talking directly by Knotts that is.

I wouldn't go to Knotts in the summer. They hire a bunch of teenagers to do the rides and don't train them properly. I know because I was one of them.
Just a heads up!

^ Six flags isnt any better in the whole "teenager ride operator part," lol. I mean, who really cares about the ride operators, though? It's
always been teenagers when I go to ANY theme park. Well, except Disney I guess. But I mean, you strap people in and push a button. I'm not really expecting
much out of them to begin with.....

Definitely go to Laguna Beach. I think it's the cleanest of the bunch, and the most chill. Plus, they have really great restaurants and art galleries.
And make sure you get fried chicken at Knott's! It's a must. |

haha. Yeah, I grew up going to Cedar Point several times a summer. And that's just kids from Europe coming over and working and living in the US for the
summer. So, that part doesn't bother me so much. That's exactly what I expect.
KellyDoll, would you say it would be a better trip for us to do Knotts rather than Six Flags? It's the exact same distance for us either way. |

Hmmm, yeah I just mapquested it and it is almost exactly the same distance.
I mean, it's hard to say. It depends what type of theme park/activities you're more interested in. I would check out the individual sites to get the exact specifics on the rides and see what interests you more. I would say 6 flags has the better rides for sure, but Knott's rides aren't too shabby. If you do 6 flags you will have to go to the LA beaches. Knotts = OC beaches. Im probably biased because I was born and raised in OC, but I think the OC beaches are far better. I don't know, you just get that "laid beack beach vibe" from the OC ones. LA ones seem very dirty and touristy to me. But like I said, it depends on which activity you want to place more "importance" on.....the park, or the beach. While it's the same distance from Vegas to each park, keep in mind Knotts is a lot closer to the beach than is 6 flags. From 6 flags to the closest beach (Santa Monica) it's about 40 minutes. Hard to say, just depends. |

Yeah, I think that's what turned me onto Knotts initially is because everyone was saying that Six Flags was like an hour to the beach. I'd rather have
it all a little closer. I mean, we want thrill rides and a good time at the park, but I also want to be closer to the beach.
Yikes. haha. I'm so indecisive I might have to pawn the decision off on someone else. |

Well I don't really think Buena Park is a bad area, I just think it's a little boring. Our mall here sucks, there's some good food around but
they're chains so you can go to those restaurants at other places. However, we DO have the only Portillo's currently in California which I think is
pretty darn good. But the only really good thing about Buena Park is Knotts.
