My first reaction after seeing it? "Wow, I gotta see that again."
I don't know WTF just happened, but it was awesome. And crazy. ![]()
I went to the 4:30 showing, and there were less than 10 people there? I don't know. I'm sure more will be at the later showings, but still. This
movie's not going to make any money. But that's ok. I'm just glad I got to see it. I've wanted to since I first heard about it and not just
because of Justin. Just because it sounded effin' ridiculous. And it was. And I loved it. ![]()
The first time I saw Donnie Darko, I was like, "Uh...." I didn't get it. At all. And so I didn't know if I liked it or not. But it was so bizarre that I looked it up online, and I got sucked into all the theories, and the website was so cool that I came to appreciate it.
I liked this movie much more than Donnie Darko. There are definitely people who hate this movie. A lot. They think it's a convoluted mess. There's just SO much packed into one film. And then this film has its staunch defenders and supporters who agree it's a mess, but a glorious mess. That would be the category I fall into.
There's so much going on in this film that it's hard to wrap your head around. It's like a political satire meets sci fi thriller meets the Bible with musical and comedic elements. I don't even know. There's a lot of characters and info. Some frames have like 50 million things going on, and you don't know where to look first. But that's the cool part. It looked cool, the music was cool, the cinematography and effects were cool.
It was interesting and original and not boring. To me at least. I've definitely never seen a movie like that, and it's ok with me that I didn't understand some of it.
That said, I actually did follow it pretty well. Granted, I've read A LOT about this movie so I knew what to expect. Even without reading the graphic novels, I felt like I had a good grasp of what was happening. Not sure how an uninformed person would follow it. It only really got confusing to me in the end, and a lot of that same stuff confused me in Donnie Darko since they share some similar themes.
The end is completely open ended, and you're left with, "What just happened?" And I'm sure that was the point. ![]()
With all that out of the way.....JUSTIN. He narrates everything, so his presence is felt throughout the whole film. He's like the first and last things you
see and hear pretty much. But his actual screentime is maybe 10 minutes at the most? Still, those 10 minutes were packed with awesome.
He was so good. Basically he has one major scene, which entails him drug dealing then the drug-induced
"All These Things I've Done" dream sequence which we've all heard about. He pops up here and there in other scenes, but that was his shining
moment. And oh my God, I looooooved it.
Let me tell ya, he made a MUCH better and more believeable soldier in this than BSM. His accent was better, too. Justin has the most expression filled eyes.
He acts so good with his eyes. They say so much.
And because I have to be superficial for a moment, Jesus fuck he was sexy as hellllll in this. Even with the creepy scar and stupid facial hair, he
just...ugh. His body looked SO GOOD. And he had swagger. And him stumbling around all drunk and high as fuck covered in blood but getting freaky with the
nurses. Maybe it doesn't sound hot, but it so is.
I need to see it again.
Oh, and his voice is teh sex. That is all.
So...yeah.
If you have any interest, I say go see it, just for the visual of seeing
it on the big screen. It has some really visually cool stuff. You might not like it or be confused as fuck, but I like that it takes chances, even if it fails.
Which it does to some people.

Thank you for the review! I hope by some miracle that we get it here.
