my bf is and sometimes i feel like it's because i'm not good enough because if i was he wouldn't be depressed. i can't make him happy enough. i
know that's not true and it isn't about me, but i just think that way at times.

My boyfriend suffers from depression and it's really hard at times because he won't see anyone and he won't take anything for it. Luckily it's
not as bad now as when we first got together, but there have been times when it's been so overwhelming and I didn't know how to handle it. Especially
since I've never had problems with it myself. My suggestion is just to be there and be supportive. That's really all you can do because unfortunately
you can't fix it.

Yeah I'm in the midst of dealing with a breakup where my significant other is depressed. He told me that he didn't want to be a burden on me and that
he needs air because everyday is a struggle for him.

The separation has been hard man...real hard. Like I don't know what to do about him. But I've been moving forward and trying to concentrate on other
stuff.

If I knew before falling in love with him that he suffered from depression, I wouldn't date him.

I've never dated someone who was depressed, but I did have a bipolar roommate/best friend for several years, and for my own mental health, I had to get out
of that relationship. So I would never start another one willingly.

I haven't. And this might make me sound like a bitch but I don't think that I could. I cannot stand people that sulk all the time. That's just not
a problem I would want to take on in my own life if I was just starting out dating someone.

Now, if my boyfriend suddenly became depressed, I obv wouldn't break up with him over it. I'd help him try to get to the root of the problem, encourage
him, do whatever I could to help him get out of the "slump."

As someone who deals with depression, I'll give you this suggestion:

Just be there for them. They will have their ups and downs, but having your constant support will really help, even though they might not show appreciation at
the moment.
